Did anyone have trouble making these cookies? I made the recipe exactly per the tag instructions and the consistency was like sand. I had to add another egg plus more butter to even get the batter to stick together, which made the flavors of the cookies NOT very good, but at least the kids and I were able to bake them. I wonder if the directions were incorrect? A super cute idea but the recipe was not great….. 🙁

    • Hi Tina! This is Molly’s recipe and I made a jar and they turned out a bit dry but not as bad as you mentioned. Let me check with Molly and make sure I typed up the recipe correctly!

    • Heather says:

Happy New Year!! We made them and we used a stick of butter that I let soften over night…took a little bit of stirring but they turned out not as bad as you mentioned. I might try to beat the butter in my kitchen aid mixer next time and see if that helps with the consistency of the cookies. Santa definitely needed the glass of milk we left him for these cookies!!

    • Molly Ashton says:

Hi Tina! I have made these cookies twice this season and both times they turned out great, I am sorry it didn’t turn out that way for you! A few suggestions that might help are to make sure your stick of butter is very soft, then cream it with the egg and vanilla before you add the dry ingredients. It is a thick dough so you might have to use your hands for the final stirring, that’s what I did. Also, decreasing the baking time could help as all ovens cook slightly different! Hope that helps!

      • Molly Ashton says:

Sorry…. I wanted to also add as Heather mentioned that creaming well in a blender before the dry ingredients are added is key! With most cookie recipes, the sugars are usually creamed with the egg and butter before adding the other ingredients so it helps the lending process, that is not the case with cookies in a jar as everything is being added at once, so having the butter and egg nice and creamy really helps!
