As a brand ambassador for Shutterfly, I am having so much fun creating new projects each month to share with you! I hope my ideas inspire you to create something fabulous for your own home. This month, I designed my own set of canvases for our new vacation home. I’m so excited to report that demo has begun on the house and our goal is to have the remodel completed by early October. With my mind on decorating the house up North, I couldn’t help but decide to design something that we can use there. The inspiration came from the creative artwork that is everywhere right now that incorporates awesome typography, words and quotes.
You may have seen a peek of the first canvas I designed last week, which is the circle custom logo. The inspiration for this design is very ironic, because I spotted a pin on Pinterest that led me to an article that basically bashes this type of “hipster, artisanal” logo, yet teaches you how to create it. Well, I happen to love this style, so thank you very much to Fast Company for teaching me how to make one! I used the free fonts they suggested and then incorporated our last name, details about the vacation house and a silhouette of a deer. I think the design turned out amazing and when it arrived printed from Shutterfly on a 16″ x 16″ canvas, I was giddy!
The second canvas I created was a modern collage of “trees” using this font I purchased. Each tree represents a member of our little family of four. I love how the trees also look like arrows which are so popular in design right now. I also did this as a 16″ x 16″ canvas.
The third canvas I designed was a typography print that describes what we do when we are in Flagstaff on vacation! It is 16″ x 20″ and I used the same fonts I used for the logo canvas and varied the sizes of the fonts until it looked balanced.
If you are looking at these and saying, “Well, I like those but I can’t do that!”…YES, you can! I am going to be showing you how to make your own custom artwork for canvases, using a free program, free fonts and graphics. Come back after the long weekend and get ready to design! I hope you like how my canvases turned out! I can’t wait to get the house ready and hang them up there. I’ll be sure to show you when I do!
While I was playing on Shutterfly, I also made this Curved Glass Print for my husband’s desk at work using one of our family photos. It was hard to photograph because of the reflection, but it is super cool in person.
