We love working with Parenting Magazine, so when style editor, Sabrina James approached us a few months ago about styling a party for an upcoming issue, we jumped at the opportunity! The party feature is published in the current issue (April 2013) so run out and grab a copy so you can check it out! The premise of the article, titled “Birthday Remix” is to show how to take classic children’s party themes and give the them a modern, fresh twist. When Sabrina suggested we work on the Princess Party theme, I was thrilled. (you know me and my love for pink and princesses….) Be sure to also check awesome parties by Oh Happy Day (inspired by Cars) and Kara’s Party Ideas (Harry Potter). We created a Modern Princess Party in a fresh color palette of neon pink + gray. We couldn’t leave out the girly, dainty touches, so be sure to check out all of the pretty details including lace crowns, felt wands and tulle poms! We hope you love it as much as we do!
We started with a simple invitation design featuring a custom lace crown illustration that I had my friend, Kori create. The printable invitation is available in our shop, along with the neon pink tags, neon pink heart stickers, gray striped bags and felt star wands!
I had so much fun finding wardrobe for this shoot! Kate’s neon pink lace dress from GapKids (above) was really the starting inspiration for this neon pink/gray theme. Our friends at Cici & Ryann sent over the gray chevron dress (above), which our model looked adorable in! Our friend, Faith sent one of her adorable retro-inspired dresses in gray with a white ruffle (below). Additional clothing came from H&M and GapKids.
The Inspirador, here in Chandler was the perfect location for this shoot with its white walls, gray tile flooring and modern fireplace. Tulle poms (instructions in the magazine) and decorative pillows framed the space for our party table.
For easy placemats, we used neon pink scrapbook paper underneath a simple square white plate. We topped the plates with glittered wooden utensils and a mini favor bag filled with a cookie and topped with a neon heart sticker and simple name tag.
For drinks, our french square plastic bottles rimmed with pink sugar were perfect, along with gray striped straws to color coordinate.
Lace crowns and felt star wands are perfect party favors and also add to a festive touch to the chairs. It’s always a great favor idea to give the little guests something to wear.
Vanilla cupcakes are dressed up with gray polka dot cupcake wrappers and simple toppers made using toothpicks and our neon pink heart stickers!
A few of our sweet models wore our beaded necklaces, which we now offer in neon pink, white and gray after having them designed for this party!
We enlisted the help of Bonnie from Inspired Occasions to create the perfect cake and other desserts. Rapunzel was the perfect doll to use for the cake and we added black and white striped ribbon to complete her “skirt” as well as a tiny crown and mini star wand.
To tie in the colors, we used our favorite 2.25″ circle punch to make large confetti dots for the tables. We also used it to punch out the simple dessert labels. So easy!
Lunches were packed in our white gable boxes, wrapped with ribbon and topped with name tags attached with a neon pink heart sticker.
Our lovely friend, Becki was on hand to do mini makeovers on the girls, including a pink glittered heart on their cheeks!
A big thank you to Parenting Magazine for giving us such a great opportunity to create a fabulous new party theme!
