Now that Halloween is over, it’s time to start planning your Thanksgiving dinner! I am so excited to share this Sunflower Thanksgiving photo shoot I styled for HGTV. The best news? The full printable Sunflower Thanksgiving collection is available to download on HGTV! We decided my new house was the perfect location for the shoot. Laura Winslow captured all of the details and our adorable model family. The focus for the shoot was going beyond pumpkin pie and creating a full Thanksgiving dessert display. I also created a simple tablescape to coordinate with the Sunflower theme.
To create the place settings, I used basic white plates and linen placemats from Crate & Barrel that I’ve had since our wedding and topped with yellow plates from Pier1 and sunflower plates from HomeGoods. The chocolate brown satin napkins from Pier1 were wrapped with crafty napkins rings put together by our new resident crafter, Kristyn from Lil Luna. She used hot glue to attach a paper medallion and our downloadable “enjoy” printable party circles to a strip of burlap. The printable place cards were placed in embellished frames by Banner Boutique.
I also asked Kristyn to create a wreath for the shoot and it turned out fantastic! To make the wreath, cover foam wreath form with moss, using hot glue. Print our “welcome” banner template, trim and secure with hot glue. Create paper medallions using this technique in various sizes and attach with hot glue. Add a thick burlap bow for hanging. The sunflower invitation is displayed in a rich brown frame topped with Banner Boutique handmade silk flowers. The printable blank invitation design is available for download, and we can customize for a small fee.
What’s for dinner? or dessert? Use our printable menu to let your guests know what to look forward to. A simple white pitcher filled with fresh sunflowers creates the perfect centerpiece for this Thanksgiving dinner. These wood pumpkins from Pottery Barn are a beautiful addition to any autumn decor and store easily.
Ready for dessert? Change things up this year and serve a variety of desserts for Thanksgiving. These mini pumpkin mousse parfaits were so delicious and look quite pretty too! We’ll be sharing the recipe next week.
Cupcakes aren’t a typical Thanksgiving dessert, but everyone loves cupcakes! Pumpkin cupcakes with cream cheese frosting are a perfect Thanksgiving treat. Top with fondant sunflowers or our printable party circles. Impress your guests with this gorgeous wood cupcake stand that is the perfect fit for autumn decor.
Who can resist cupcakes?
We took a plain white fondant cake and used ribbon, a banner and cake bunting to show how to easily dress it up. Kristyn made itty bitty paper medallions with button centers and we strung them on twine and attached to two sticks from the backyard. She created the “family” banner, which is available to download and print on craft paper. Cute, right? We made pumpkin whoopie pies which were delicious and adorably displayed in mini white dishes from Pier1.
Cake pops are one of my favorite desserts and when covered in autumn colors create a beautiful display that coordinates beautifully with the Sunflower theme. Chocolate covered oreos are not only delicious, but are available in custom designs to match the Thanksgiving decor.
Laura spotted my fireplace and decided it was the perfect place to create a second setting for the shoot. We hung the easy, crafty “give thanks” banner that Kristyn made on the mantel and added festive wreaths to complete the scene. The printable banner letter panels are available for download on HGTV and full tutorial is coming soon!
A big thank you to our lovely model family for participating in the shoot.
We had such a great time creating this theme and hope you can utilize it for your own Thanksgiving gathering!

Hi Michelle! My table is Pottery Barn, but I bought it on Craig’s List a couple of years ago. Unfortunately, they don’t offer that style anymore but they have some similar!
