Peanut Butter Oreo Cookie Balls :: Holiday Recipe

Around this time two years ago, I became addicted to Oreo Cookie Balls. I mean seriously, these things are so delicious. You can get the standard recipe (and free printable!) from when I blogged about them before. So, when Oreo contacted me a couple weeks ago about adding a twist on the basic recipe, you know I said, “well, of course!”. Any excuse to make more of these dangerous treats! So, Molly came over and we tested recipes and came up with a Peanut Butter version (you know me and my love for peanut butter + chocolate). I’m pretty sure I ate 10 of these that day (oops…not really on that Paleo diet I started last week). Oh well, I enjoy holiday treats way too much to try eating healthy right now. These just make me happy.

Peanut Butter Oreo Balls

Ingredients
  • 1 (16 ounce) package OREO Sandwich Cookies
  • 5 ounces Cream Cheese, softened
  • 3 Tablespoons Creamy Peanut Butter
  • 2 (8 ounce) packages Baker’s Semi-Sweet Baking Chocolate, melted
  • 1 cup peanut butter chips
  • wooden sticks
Directions
  • Crush entire package of cookies to fine crumbs; place in medium bowl. Add cream cheese and peanut butter; mix until well blended. Roll cookie mixture into balls, about 1-inch in diameter. Makes approximately 40 balls.
  • Dip balls in chocolate; place on wax paper-covered baking sheet. (Any leftover chocolate can be stored at room temperature for another use.)
  • Melt peanut butter chips and put in a pastry bag or ziploc bag. Cut a small hole in the tip of the bag and drizzle melted peanut butter chips on each oreo truffle ball.
  • Stick wooden stick into each ball.
  • Refrigerate until firm, about 1 hour. Store leftover truffles, covered, in refrigerator until ready to serve.

  5. Anita says:

U mentioned Oreo chocolate sandwich cookies, does that mean chocolate cream filling ones or the standard Oreo cookies?

  6. Alisa says:

Kim, how are you melting the chocolates. I tried a batch before and the chocolates did not melt for me. What is the secret?

    • Kim says:

Melt them slowly and at a low temperature. Stir every 30 seconds… It shouldn’t take more than 3 minutes or so. You can also melt small portions at a time.

  7. Jill says:

Every time I’ve made the regular Oreo pops for various holidays, they are a big hit! Looking forward to trying these! I think I remember seeing Peanut Butter filled Oreos in the grocerie store. Has anyone tried those?

  8. Rox Shinobi says:

    Hi
when you are crushing the Oreos are you doing just the cookie part or including the filling?

    thanks,

  9. batsheva says:

Look heavenly. Can’t wait to try. I’m trying to figure out the best way to dip the balls into the chocolate. Any ideas?

    • Molly says:

I drop each one in the chocolate and use a fork to scoop them out of the chocolate. Tap the fork on the edge of your bowl and extra chocolate will drip back into the bowl!

  10. Jessica says:

These sound soooo yummy! Can’t wait to try them!!

  11. Brenda says:

These look SOOOO good! I can’t wait to try them!

  12. Rebecca says:

The recipe calls for the package of Oreos to be divided. But then it says to crush the whole package. Do I use the whole package of Oreos? Thanks!

  13. Sue says:

Can these be made in the food processor? Crush the cookies and add cream cheese and peanut butter and let the processor do the work?

    • Molly says:

Yes you can make them in the food processor! Crush the cookies, then add the other ingredients to the food processor!

  14. Lucy says:

I made these last night and they are OUT OF THIS WORLD….I had 2 (had to taste test you know) and had a pretty good sweetness buzz the rest of the night!!! Wrapped some up and am delivering today as gifts….I used really small popsicle sticks and they looked super cute! Thanks for the recipe Kim, it’s a KEEPER!!!!!

  15. Miriam Weiss says:

If we need a dairy free version what would you recommend? using all peanut butter or a non-dairy cream cheese substitute? (sometimes these taste a little too “soy”)
    Any help would be appreciated.

  16. Aileen says:

I saw this on Instagram and had to google it. Found it here and tried making them tonight for thanksgiving. But the chocolate dipping was such a hassle. I’m used to making cake pop with candy melt and would had a bit of oil to the candy melt to thin it out a bit. But this semi chocolate was just too think to evenly coat the mini Oreo peanut butter ball. I gave up 🙁 any other suggestion to making the melted chocolate more easily to coat ? I kept a few to taste for later. Thanks

  17. Colleen says:

Help. I am making these for the first time for an exchange tomorrow. I formed the balls, dipped them in the chocolate, placed them on the wax paper and then when I stuck the sticks in – they broke apart! I stopped after five of them did that. What am I doing wrong? I followed the recipe exactly – are they dry for some reason? Has this happened to anyone else?

  18. Nancy says:

Can the Oreo balls be frozen?

  19. Ronie says:

hi, i want to make this for a party but i cant use the cream cheese. Can u offer me replacments?? Milked base and parve based please
