We have been so lucky to have an amazing teacher for Tommy during the start of his elementary school years. Not only was Miss Newberry an incredible kindergarten teacher to Tommy, but lucky for us, she looped and taught his first grade class this year as well. For a very shy child, having the stability of the same wonderful teacher and many of the same students has been absolutely fantastic for him. What are we going to do without her? (smile) The families in Miss Newberry’s class went in together on a end of the year gift for her. Our friend, Sherah had the great idea of doing a summer bag filled with a towel and other goodies for Miss Newberry to enjoy during break. Vicki (you know this gal pal of mine), suggested we get her a canvas FEED bag that she had her eye on and we jumped on board for the idea. The bag is so fabulous and supports an amazing cause (I want one now!). The FEED organization was started by Lauren Bush, model and activist. Each product that bears the FEED logo supports programs working to fight hunger and malnutrition throughout the world. When this particular bag is purchased, it provides 100 Vitamin A supplements to children in need. This bag would be perfect for a day trip, soccer game or day at the beach. I whipped up a coordinating tag that says “Thank You for Feeding Our Children with Knowledge” (email me if you want the file) and also included the adorable teacher quote plaque I bought on zulily. Miss Newberry sent out a final message yesterday to all of the class parents, which brought tears to my eyes…
Today is the day that I give your children back to you. Your children are older, taller, wiser, more independent, more responsible, and more mature than they were when they were entrusted to my care. In the 180 days (and for most of us, 360 days) that we have spent in our crowded classroom, your children and I have grown close through our time living, laughing, playing, and learning. Although your children would have experienced all of this in spite of me, it has been my pleasure and privilege to watch their personalities unfold day by day. Whatever your child’s destiny, wherever your child goes, whatever he or she does and becomes, I wish them a happy journey in life and I will always remember our precious time together. Have a wonderful summer break and enjoy second grade. Remember to take time to enjoy the simple things in life because before you know it, your babies will be graduating and heading off to college.

Tears in my eyes as I read this! Miss Newberry sounds incredible and I too am so grateful for the wonderful teacher our kids had for Kindergarten this year. No doubt that teachers do not get enough thanks and praise for all the do for our kids, but I tried to show Mrs. Rendall how much we appreciated her this year, with inspiration from TKS printables of course! I also purchased the Back To School printables off your Etsy site and used those items for our Teacher Apppreciation week. The teachers LOVED it all and felt so appreciated. I do LOVE the FEED bags and plan to get a few. For all the teachers out there enjoying their summer vacation…WE APPRECIATE YOU!!
Wow. What a teacher. I loved her sweet note so much!!
Love this! She sounds incredible.
SO SO SO great…I LOVE this and so will my son’s teacher…THANKS for the wonderful idea.
Beautiful. So grateful for WONDERFUL teachers. Thanks for the bag info.
Great gift idea, so much more original that Starbucks gift certificates. Can be used as a bag for schoo, out, or even as a re-usable grocery bag. Teachers will love it
Such a sweet and wonderful gift!
Your son’s teacher sounds like a wonderful woman. You came up with a super gift of thanks for her and I’m sure she loved it!
Awesome Idea Kim! Sounds like tommy’s teacher was a winner, always a Blessing 🙂
This is a great idea! Thanks for sharing.
Teacher’s should definitely be appreciated. I had custom made notepads for them and planning now to print that fabulous note and frame it.. Thank you for sharing.
I love this idea! I left teaching to become a SAHM this past November after my hubby was transferred from Texas to California. I love being able to stay home with my girls, but I do miss teaching. I always think about my former students. Your family is so lucky to have had a teacher like Miss Newberry in your lives!
What a blessing to have such a wonderful teacher. They are definitely becoming more rare these days!
Hey, can you email me the template for the tag?? thanks.
Loved this idea so much, just got a feed bag for my daughters teacher for when teacher appreciation day comes about.
may I please get a copy of your tag 😉 I remembered reading this last year and thinking how amazing and lucky you guys were to have such an amazing teacher! I wanted to share that My son Dylan had an amazing teacher this year as well. He was diagnosed with Kawasaki’s disease 3 weeks into the school year and had spent a week in Rady’s Childrens Hospital. It was a Big adjustment after he came home, as if we lost a year of his developement and had to start over. Only with a new teacher, a new school and my little mouse begining the first grade She don’t really know my child’s personality yet. My son Dylan is shy and anxious at times. She went far beyond my expectations and I would really like to make the end of the school year extra special for her.. Thank u for the great ideas not sure what I have time left to do before the end of the year but I’m definitely going to try 🙂
