Our fabulous contributor, Kristin from Restyle Source recently styled a Rainbow Art Party for Nancy O’Dell. (so cool!) Nancy’s daughter and her friends enjoyed decorating cupcakes and painting mini canvases. They snacked on sweet treats in a rainbow of colors including cookies from our friend, Bonnie at Inspired Occasions and chocolate covered oreos from our favorite, Sweeties by Kim. We are so thrilled that Kristin used so many rainbow party supplies from the TomKat Shop! Today she is sharing her favorite tips for hosting this adorable party theme with us!
From Kristin:
An art party is the perfect way to bring together color, fun and lots of creativity! Here are some tips to coordinate your own special and memorable art party.
Think outside of the box.
Sometimes pairing unconventional objects helps create theme-appropriate pieces for parties; in this instance the cake pedestals were made by gluing an art palette to a candlestick so the treats sat on top perfectly to be displayed and enjoyed. Crates and buckets were also used to hold the supplies for the little artists. Simple and functional is the key to a great art party and why we love the use of these chalkboards that helped add color and label party goodies. Remember it doesn’t have to be time consuming to be beautiful and innovative.
Catch their eye.
For this soiree, color was essential to engage young guests. The rainbow striped favor boxes and polka dotted cupcake containers from The TomKat Studio Shop encouraged kids to come right over to the tasty treats, and the colorful garland was a wonderful compliment too. You can learn how to make this garland with these simple instructions using only twine and colored tissue paper. Make sure to pick up these party goods from the shop to make your party pop!
Kim recently created a full printable collection for this theme for another client and it will be in the shop soon!

Fabulous! I hope to use this theme one day for my daughter’s birthday so I will use some of these great ideas. LOVE the cake 🙂
You MUST have a rainbow party for Kate! Can’t wait!
It’s on the list….next year is TKS ballerina….then the following year will be a rainbow/art/heart party!!
Dying over the huge vintage chalkboard she used behind the dessert table! Great prop for a stylist to have.
So fabulous, right? Love it. Need it.
LOVE this party idea! I saw where you asked if anyone had any ideas but not sure if this is where I am suppose to post…I did an Art in The Park Party for our 3 year old…she loves Mickey Mouse so ours was a Mickey Mouse themed Art Party. Since children of all ages were invited, I hosted the party at the park down the street. I used a cookie cutter & traced Mickey Mouse onto the invitation and let my soon to be 3 year old color it (my kids love to be involved) and then I hung a clothes line at the park where all the artwork could be hung…we donated the Artwork to my friends organization, Crayons Matter. The party favors were crayons, Mouse Mouse coloring books and a Mickey Mouse cookie…the older children got an art pad of paper in place of the coloring book. I made Mickey Mouse cupcakes and served mini sandwiches, fries, mini bagels and fruit…and wine & cheese for the moms & dads!! My pictures are not nearly as good as yours, but you can check it out at http://themintedidea.wordpress.com/2014/01/08/mks-art-in-the-park-3rd-birthday/
Again, LOVE your party…might use for a playdate idea as all 3 of my girls love art!!
