Our House Remodel: Flooring Reveal

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Floor & Decor. All opinions and text are mine.

If you’ve been following along with our latest remodel journey, you may have seen our fun visit to Floor & Decor to choose the main flooring for the house! In this post, I shared several options for our main flooring that we were deciding between and ultimately the gorgeous wood flooring we decided to go with. Montpellier Oak Engineered Hardwood is “the one” and we had installed throughout our entire downstairs, on the staircase and on the upstairs catwalk. You guys… it’s GORGEOUS!

Just a little bit different, right?! I’m 100% completely in love with it. The color, which is a blend of light grays and browns is absolute perfection. It goes with all of our furniture and decor. The soft texture is delicious. I love the wide width of the planks (8.75″). The variety of each plank adds so much character to the space. You may have seen our kitchen reveal post last week which gave a little peek of the flooring…

Isn’t it beautiful?

Here is a fun before & after of our catwalk upstairs. You’ll not only notice the gorgeous wood flooring, but check out our the new railing we put in! We removed so much drywall including ALL of those niches. Later, niches! The walkway is so much wider and open now!

Crazy, right? Here’s the view of the other side, where the kids’ rooms are.

One of the main reasons we chose Montpellier Oak Engineered Hardwood was because of the staircase. While I love wood-look tile, I don’t love how it looks on stairs because of the sharp edges. With the Montpellier Oak, I was able to order custom stairnose pieces to match the flooring! It turned out beautiful!

Here’s a little peek of our family room because it shows how lovely the wood flooring looks in this space too! (more to come…)

What do you think? Do you love the Montpellier Oak as much as I do?

  2. Anna says:

Beautiful! What is the wall color on the walls in the catwalk? It looks slightly blue or is that just the light?

  6. Tina Dahl says:

LOVE the flooring Kim……such a great choice! Those niches…..holy cow…..so much better with the railing! Also loving the board + batten wainscoting…..such beautiful architectural details really make the area sing! It coordinates with the shaker style of the kitchen cabinets so well. BRAVO! Can’t wait to see more 🙂 XOXO

It looks so amazing, thank you for sharing and providing the link for the floors. Great job ☺

  13. Chelsea Koch says:

I have the same floors. While they are beautiful, they show every drop of water, or anything else, that falls on them. How have you successfully protected/cleaned them?

  14. Allison Biesterfeld says:

Hey Kim, who did you use to install the flooring?

  15. suzy says:

Kim, how kid friendly and dog friendly is the wood floor? i think my current flooring is some kind of laminate but i wanted to change everything out to this flooring you picked. just scared it will scratch or dent easily.

    • Kim says:

      Hi Suzy,

We haven’t had any scratching or denting, but if we did, I don’t think it would be noticeable because the wood is so textured and has unique markings on each piece. Spills/moisture should be wiped up quickly or may leave a stain.

  16. Marta Heine says:

You have captured my heart and attention with your fabulous post! Thank you so much for sharing such a lovely and very insightful one. Not just your content is engaging but the way you have shared great photos are awesome! I would loved to have the same flooring – exactly the same with the pictures you’ve shown. I have been troubled with deciding what type of oak beam should I use but with your post, I have been swooned by Montpellier Oak! Thank you so much and I can’t wait to share this with my friends.

  17. Shannon Underwood says:

I love the look! So amazing. What color paint did you use on the walls?

  18. WOW! Amazing! Really amazing transformation. Love it!!!

  19. Erin says:

How are the floors holding up? We have 3 kids and want to put this in the kitchen and living room. I’m so worried about scratches. And I love the wide plank oak!

    • Kim says:

      Hi Erin!
We actually sold the house already! We didn’t have any scratches while we were still living there. 🙂

  20. S says:

Did you feel like the floors looked really gray in real life? I ordered them and they look so dark. What was the sky?

  21. S says:

    Sku* not sky

  22. Rebecca says:

How did you get stair noses for this wood? This is exactly the floor I want, but I was told you can’t use them on stairs? Please tell me your secret!

  23. Jo says:

Do you have any other photos of your family room?

  24. Cindy says:

    Hi Kim,

Great job on the fantastic transformation..We are building an ocean front home and your choices and colors are very similar to what I’m looking for. It sounds like you’ve sold your home, congratulations! Do you by chance remember the paint color and brand? Love it!
    Cindy

  25. Christy says:

Looks beautiful! Love it all! I’m considering wood for our entire home, stairs and up stairs as well but am concerned about the acoustic of the home and it being too loud as it is a large home that enters with a two story vaulted ceiling. And I have 3 kids- two of them boys. How has that been for you? I’m afraid it will be too loud. Thx for your input!

  26. Lee Mumme says:

I absolutely love this flooring. I’ve been looking at it at Floor and Decor. There are 3 very similar Woodland Reserve Montpelier Oaks, however. There’s the Montpelier Oak, the Monptelier Oak Wire Brushed, and the Montpelier Oak Distressed. Do you know which you have? The link takes me to the Wire Brushed but the samples I have look darker than yours. Thank you so much!

  27. Vicky Baca says:

    Hi Kim!
Did I read right? You sold this house? If so what’s your next project? I love the kitchen and floors but with 4 boys and a pool I’m afraid those floors would be ruined by my kids and animals. I wanted to ask you what color did you use for the kitchen? I’m looking to re-do my kitchen soon, Thx! Love your style! You complete me!

  28. Sherri says:

Question for you – there are multiple versions of this flooring. Which was yours?

    – Woodland Reserve
    Montpellier Oak Distressed Engineered Hardwood

    – Woodland Reserve
Montpellier Oak Wire Brushed Engineered Hardwood

    -Woodland Reserve
    Montpellier Oak Engineered Hardwood

    Thank yo u!

  29. Natalee says:

Hello! Is the floor nailed down? Glued down? Or both? If you remember how they installed it it would be super helpful. Thank you!

  30. Ydepalma says:

    Hi Kim,

What is the SKU# for the Montpellier floor? There are a few with that name at Floor & Decor. Love it! Thanks.

  31. Rebecca says:

    Wow your house is beautiful!

  32. Denise says:

What is the SKU ? There are several options with that name. Thank you

  33. Awesome set of images, the light in some of them is incredible!!!

  34. Sara Anderson says:

I love the color and style of these hardwood floors! I’ve been looking into hardwood floor refinishing for my own home and this has me sold!

  36. Jessica says:

I love the board and batten that you did in this house. Do you have a blog about that? Would love to know the dimensions you used. We are going to do this in our house and so far yours is what I like the most out of everything I have seen.

  37. Christina says:

Love the flooring. I have a question on your living room chandelier. What is the name and make of this chandelier.

  38. Erica says:

It’s beautiful! Also, what color paint did you use? Love that too!!
